We have been north of Roads End park to the bridge at Newport today - - - - - More finds to come!
We made a plan to walk the beach this morning –but didn’t get out there til around 7:30. There were several people out with bags full of floats – we only saw plastic – no huge “we found glass” grins. We are learning that this month of April – we need to be out there when the sun comes up – if we want to see the sight of the overnight high tide debris. We’ve been learning from several sites that the month of April is the greatest month to find floats and debris.
We saw some great weather changes, however we didn’t get rained on but for about 2-3 minutes. Nathan found several small plastic floats and 2-3 large ones. He talked me into bringing one home. He said his little ones need a daddy. . . . Rolls Eyes. I’m not sure what we are going to do with all of these floats, but the differences in color, shape, size and writing really is interesting. They are all collecting in a metal tub out side. . .

Ya – if anyone out there in cyberworld collects Japanese Floats – Glass or Plastic – let us know . . .We can get all the plastic ones you’d want. :)

We were on the beach north of 15th street enjoying all of the exposed bedrock and the display of agates and colorful rocks -
When we looked up to see Nathan and the pooch running towards these rocks. Very odd behavior.
- Nate – “ I saw something rolling in the surf, it was small and green. There was a guy walking away from it – and I thought he might have been a float fairy who placed the float there. The closer I got – the larger the float became. Then I thought it was another bouncy ball, since we have found three of them. When I realized it was glass I was so excited I almost swam out to get it, but thought you would get mad, it came to shore and I got it before the guy in the brown coat could get to it.”
I was trying to have a peaceful agate walk without the camera – so we had to walk back to 15th to take a pic. Nate was between 26th and 35th when he found it. (NorthWest)
Beautiful evening – Hour past Low tide – Sun starting to set.
Nate wanted to do a re-enactment of finding it, but didn’t want to put it in the surf in case it got swept away . . . He was in the large rolling waves when he found it, this is south of the tide pools past 15th.
The glass float is green, with a molded edge, lots of air bubbles and slight frosting. It has quite a bit of muscles growing in the bump in the bottom. We will clean it up and look for markings.
The glass float measures at 92 cm circumference around the molding line.

I think this is an American Beaver that we found on the beach
He is still standing up – but Seriously – Cute right? Guinea Pig Cute.
The tail had amazingly cool texture – like leather – or Rhino or ???
He found a hoe in the rip rap there in the crack on the end. The worker we spoke with says it is a problem with man made structures that shore up the beach line, it actually can create more erosion and, like with this beaver it is a false habitat that is dangerous.
Here is another story of a Beaver found near Trestles in February.
We have been on the phone off and on for about 3 hours with the Wildlife Pager – ODFW’s contact – with Volunteers here in town trained to help relocate these lost guys. Report is that he is great, just thirsty, and that they are going to transport him to our side of the lake. Super Cool.
Of course we were high sun with a cell phone camera – but still glad to have captured our newest find on the beach!

The volunteers got the Beaver into the large crate without a fuss. He was tired, but seemed well.

We got to see him swim eastward up the little creek. Very Cool.
Oh – and for you diehards – ya, its a little scat for ya.
He is Risen! He is Risen Indeed! We missed the Sunrise Service in Taft, although we heard they did get to have it on the pier and around 50 people rejoiced together. We headed out north of town around 7:50 – for a walk to look for beach debris after high tide – before going to Easter Breakfast at Gleneden Church. John 21:1-14 tells of the Lord helping to gather fish and cooking breakfast for the disciples - after the resurrection – so Gleneden Church calls it the Easter Feaster – we had biscuits and eggs instead of fish and honeycomb, but it was still delightful to join together! We headed out to the beach after the service, but were blown clear off. Even the pooch was hiding in a stair well, guarding her ball, peeking out every few seconds, declaring her desire to return to the car. . . .
